DNA and Genetics
Interactive Punnett Squares: (3/8)
1) Use the white handout that Mrs. Kuebler handed out to complete this activity.
2) Click on the link below and complete all steps of the worksheet while using the Interactive Punnett Square simulator to create a mystery animal.
3) Hand in the worksheet when you are done creating your animal!
4) Next, click on the link below and design three bunny offspring by following the directions to create bunnies with the desired traits that will help them survive in their environment.
5) Lastly, upload the homework from myHomework on your iPad and begin!
Patterns of Inheritance:
1) Watch this video and takes notes on the notes sheet.
2) Complete both sides of the homework worksheet for Monday. (You do not need to complete the study guide unless you want to do that to help you study over the weekend.)
Meiosis Webquest: (3/6)
1) Take a pink handout from the front counter. 2) Watch the Meiosis and Punnett Squares video posted to the right--> -Meiosis is a confusing topic so Mrs. Kuebler recorded this lesson so you could pause, take notes, and rewind. - Fill out your pink notes sheet as you're listening to her teach you about meiosis. 3) Next, watch the Amoeba Sisters video: Meiosis - You are only required to know the information from Mrs. Kuebler's video, but the cartoon helps put it all into context. 4) Lastly, read the article about Lucy and Maria. Then, ask Mrs. Kuebler for a "Twins Writing Prompt". - Your homework is to complete this prompt, using your knowledge of meiosis and genetics! - The article and video can be found by clicking on the pink tab below: |

Cloning Webquest: (2/24)
#1) After copying down the notes outline from the SMARTboard, watch the video below called "What is Cloning?" Fill in the notes as you are watching Mrs. Kuebler explain the concept of cloning to you. (I tried to go slow when explaining the concepts but feel free to pause and rewind when needed.) Then read the article about bringing back 6 extinct animals using cloning techniques.

#2) Next, watch the ABC News video below that aired when Dolly was announced to the world! (You do not need to take notes on this.)
#3) Lastly, watch the video below called "The Science of Aging". (You do not need to take notes on this but we will be talking about it tomorrow.)
Mendelian Genetics
Sesame Street Genetics
This culminating lesson about genetics is not only fun, but it was developed by our very own Mrs. Strauss! Thanks for letting us share in your awesomeness, Mrs. Strauss!
Today's Task:
1) Use the provided website links to record the genotypes and phenotypes of seven traits for 16 Sesame Street characters.
2) Select one female and one male Sesame Street character to breed and fill out their genotypes/phenotypes in the appropriate chart.
Tomorrow's Task:
1) Set up Punnett squares using your female and male Sesame Street characters' genotypes.
2) Use the virtual coin flipper (see link below) to select the inherited genotypes for your offspring. (Circle the outcome.)
3) Then, use these traits to draw a new Sesame offspring!
